PATH TO VICTORY
PATH TO VICTORY
In life we fight a lot of battles, which we cannot do without, in an attempt to get along with life successfully. A lot of us fight so as to win the battle but the truth of the whole matter is as a Christian we don’t fight to win but to maintain our position as a winner.
Jesus said, ‘in the world we will have tribulations, but be of good cheer I have overcome the world.’ (John 16:33). The battles we are fighting as a Christian is not against flesh and blood but against spirits (principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age and spiritually wickedness in the heavenly places) and if these are the enemies we are fighting (things that prevent us from moving ahead in life) then hear what the scripture says about them. ‘Having disarmed principalities and powers, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it’.Coll.2:15.
So we are winners! The scripture says “he that is born of God overcomes the world…….” So I want to share with you how to maintain your position as a victor and not as a victim using the story of David and Goliath.
1 Sam.17:1 (NKJV) says “now the philistines gathered their armies together to battle which belong to Judah …” I like to say there are some battles we are fighting NOW,(not yesterday or tomorrow) and gather at your territory (your life). This means you have to first of all recognize the problem at hand before you can attack the problem. For children of Israel it was the philistine. Many people pray today and they don’t receive answer because they are not even sure of what their problem is and some don’t even request from God at all but they query God, you keep hearing things like “God why?, why me?” etc
Secondly you have to understand that the first weapon of the enemy is FEAR. Because in verse 11 the scriptures says “When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.”
What is fear?
F – False
E – Experience
A – Appearing
R – Real
In vs. 8 the scripture talked about Goliath speaking to the children of Israel and verse 11 is the result of his speaking. When you hear too much from your problem then you start getting afraid. One wise man said “don’t tell me how big your problem is, but tell your problem how big your God is”. Never look at the size of your problem or what the problem is saying but consider the ability of God.
In vs. 14 the scripture says David was the youngest…….. Never have a mindset of how God will do it because His ways are not our ways. If God can use the youngest to kill the greatest, then Zech 4:6 is true. You have to cease from trusting in your abilities, because they will fail you, but look onto God and draw your strength from him.
Some of the problems we are facing today self imposed through disobedience. David‘s father told him to go and check his brother and he obeyed. Jesse, the father of David is like God saying to us what he want and many of us doesn’t obey. Are you obeying what the scripture says? If David did not obey his father, how will he be able to kill Goliath? Let us stop disobedience. It look so cheap but through obedience there is no mountain we cannot overcome, many at times we may not even need to fight if we can obey Him.
A lot of promises were given in vs. 25 for anybody who will kill Goliath. David was not moved by those promises but he said “I want to take away the reproach from Israel and that the whole earth may know that there is a God in Israel”. His motive was right! May I ask is your motive right? Why do you want to be rich is it for yourself or for God? Those things you are looking onto God for, if he answer your prayer will he still take the glory? Let us get our motive right?
Another principle here in the life of David is that he was telling Saul how God delivered him from bear and lion and said God who delivered him from these animals will also delivered him from Goliath. Do you know that tomorrow challenges are easier to face when you remember yesterday’s victory? Know that if God can make you pass your exams then he can heal you. He is not limited in His abilities.
Vs 40 says “so he took his staff in his hand” and staff stands for experience. Old men use staffs or generals in military or men in authority i.e. staff of office, so what has been your experience in God? take your staff (authority) because you are a child of authority. He said “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me…” and the father has sent him so he sent us…” Never get scared, challenge that mountain or problem with authority. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
David went to the brook and chose five smooth stone and put them in the Shepard’s bag. The brook means water Eph 5:26 and the stone symbolizes the word of God, he said behold I lay in Zion a foundation stone……” i.e. talking about Jesus and Jesus is the word and the Shepard‘s bag symbolizes the hand of God, “the lord is my Shepard….” Which means David went into the word of God (water) picked five smooth stone (promises) and put them in the Shepard’s bag (the hand of the Lord).
That is why you have to locate some promises in the scripture about your situation and begin to row it or whirl it (mediate) before you throw it towards your Goliath. He said in Jeremiah 5:14. “Thus says the Lord God of host: because you speak this word behold I will make my word (stone) in your mouth fire, and this people wood (your problem) and it shall devour them. When you understand these principles your Goliath will fall before your face. SHALLOM
